Investing in Haitian Teachers: P4H Conference Recap
It’s never a dull moment at our schools. While summer camp wrapped up in July, August marked a new beginning. Some of the Mortel HHH teachers went “back to school” too, investing in their own growth and development.
To support this journey, we’ve been working with P4H Global, a nonprofit dedicated to equipping Haitian educators through innovative training programs. This year, we sent 10 teachers to Cap-Haïtien for P4H’s annual conference. The theme, Pwofesè se rasin libète — “Teachers are the root of freedom”— echoes Dr. Mortel’s belief that education is the one thing no one can ever take away. As P4H Global shared, “Investing in educators is investing in the nation’s freedom and future.”
Training Teachers for Transformation
Alongside the conference, our teachers participated in P4H’s Train the Trainer professional development program, a three-day intensive on leadership theories and practices. Sessions covered:
- Leadership development
- Social-emotional learning (SEL)
- Ethics
- 21st-century learning integration
- Community engagement
Results That Matter
Teachers came away with a clearer sense of their role as leaders, a deeper appreciation of how SEL and ethics shape students’ lives, and fresh ideas for weaving 21st-century practices into learning.
The Mortel HHH team gained valuable information to strengthen their roles as educators and were enthusiastic to bring home the new ideas to share with their colleagues.
Celebrating Excellence
Your investment in the Mortel HHH teachers is bearing fruit. We are thrilled to share that LBS’svery own Jocelène Pierressaint was named Haiti’s National Teacher of the Year for 2025!
P4H Global celebrated her achievement, saying:
“Her excellence in teaching and passion for her classroom have earned her this prestigious award, which was announced and presented at our PwoNA Ceremony on August 15th in Cap-Haïtien. Felisitasyon, Jocelène!”
In a recent Haitian news article they reported, “Pierresaint Jocelène’s recognition comes at a time when education is facing many challenges in Haiti. Her exemplary career and dedication are sources of inspiration for other educators. By highlighting figures like Jocelène, the PwoNa award ceremony serves as a reminder that education is a fundamental tool for social change and progress, and deserves to be celebrated and supported at all levels.”
An investment in teachers is an investment in freedom, leadership, and Haiti’s future. We’re honored to partner with organizations like P4H Global, which shares our mission: to equip Haitian educators as leaders of transformation in their schools and communities.
Thank you for strengthening classrooms, empowering teachers, and helping to shape brighter futures for thousands of Haitian children.
