We believe in the power of education to change lives and communities. That’s why we think it’s important to share some interesting facts about the work we do and our organization’s history. We’ve been around for quite a while.

Here are 5 facts you might not know about us:

1. WE HAVE REALLY GROWN SINCE OUR FIRST CLASS OF 65!

Currently, there are over 1,300 students and over 100 adults within our educational system.

2. MANY STUDENTS FROM LBS GO TO JAMES STINE!

178 of the 631 students at James Stine are graduates of Les Bons Samaritans primary

3. THE AVERAGE HAITIAN LIVES IN POVERTY

Nearly 60% of its people live below the national poverty line. Haiti is ranked the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

4. THE START BECAME A REALITY WITH ONE MEETING

In 1998, following a meeting between Dr. Mortel, Bishop Constant of Haiti, and the president of Food for the Poor, the organization agreed to fund the start-up construction costs of LBS.

5. OUR SCHOOL’S NAME CAME FROM THE GOSPEL

The character was the Good Samaritan of the Gospels who stopped to aid the man bleeding at the roadside while others ignored him. The school embodies the spirit of the Good Samaritan- serving as a compassionate presence for poor children often overlooked by society. For these children, the school is like someone who comes by, stops, and sees them differently.
