Although our world looks very different this holy season, we wish you and your family a renewed sense of hope and love that only Easter can offer.

Since our update on March 19th, I’m sorry to report that Haiti, like the United States, is being impacted by COVID-19.  Reports from earlier this week indicate that there are 23 confirmed cases in Haiti and one death.  Officials are predicting that Haiti is approximately three weeks behind the Dominican Republic in terms of the infiltration and transmission of the virus.  The Dominican Republic has 1,488 confirmed cases and 68 deaths.

Although community transmission has been confirmed in Haiti, the government is focused on the pandemic and putting in place initiatives to plan for the wave of potential cases.  In fact, the government has appointed a commission to develop a strategy to prepare communities for what may be coming.

During this time of uncertainty here at home and around the world, we want to thank our generous donors for your continued support and prayers—it’s needed now more than ever!  We leave you with Easter greetings from our students who created cards for their sponsors which were mailed last week.

Everyone here at the Mortel High Hopes for Haiti Foundation wishes you and your family good health and a blessed Easter!
