Last month, Haiti continued to see some political challenges including a nationwide strike during the last week of the month to protest the insecurity, kidnapping, and expensive cost of living that has permeated the country.

Despite the continued obstacles, our three schools in Saint Marc still had some highlights in January worth noting!

At LBS…
Joseph Kenson Jean Philippe was installed as the new Director of the Good Samaritans School (LBS) when school reopened on January 8, 2024. The students and staff witnessed his formal acceptance of the role from his previous post as the Assistant Director when Mr. Jean Mirvil, the Lead Educational Director for Mortel HHH, presented him to the entire school population during the morning assembly. Upon accepting his new role, Mr. Jean Philippe said, “It is a pleasure to help with the education of the children of my country as the new principal of the Good Samaritans school.” We’re excited to continue to work with him in this new leadership role!

At the preschool…
On January 16th, the preschool community and staff gathered for a Mass and festivities to mark their 9th anniversary! The children celebrated with performances and songs, sandwiches and juice.

At the high school…
James Stine College also celebrated its 13th anniversary in January. The community enjoyed a cultural event on Saturday night with student performances as well as awards presented to top students and teachers. The weekend of festivities continued on Sunday with a Mass of Thanksgiving and individual class parties.

We’re so grateful for your support and prayers that allow these students and staff to continue to thrive despite the challenges that surrounds them. Thanks for providing some highlights this January!
