LBS Celebrates 22 years!
During the first weekend of December, as Mortel HHH supporters gathered in Hershey, all of Saint Marc also celebrated the 22nd anniversary of the Foundation’s first school, Les Bons Samaritains!
The festivities began on Friday evening with the school’s soccer championship. Two final games were played, and a 6th grade and 2nd grade class were named champions. All players were celebrated throughout the tournament for their effort and teamwork.
Attention was then focused on the stage for a cultural celebration in the LBS courtyard. Parents, students, staff, friends of the school, and special invited guests enjoyed songs, poems, dances, and skits shared by students from kindergarten through 6th grade. The adult literacy students also performed, sharing a song of gratitude toward Dr. Mortel for establishing the program and making literacy accessible to the Saint Marc community.
Finally, the community celebrated Mass at the local parish in honor of Dr. Mortel on what would have been his 90th birthday. LBS and James Stine students marched from the school to the church in a parade lead by a marching band. During Mass, the LBS student choir filled the church with their beautiful voices as the entire community expressed their gratitude to God for this school and its founder, Dr. Mortel.
Following the Mass, students and staff returned to the school for a reception and celebration in honor of the many supporters, near and far, who have worked to keep hope alive at LBS.
