Be a Good Samaritan. Go, and Do the Same.

This March 13th, join students and communities across Haiti and the United States in a global act of service because changing the world starts with one good deed.

Twenty-five years ago, our first school in Saint Marc, Haiti was built through the generosity of everyday people who chose to show up for others. Dr. Mortel named it Les Bons Samaritains, The Good Samaritans,  in their honor. That spirit is still alive today.

Good Samaritan Day, observed every year on March 13, is our invitation to you: look to your neighbor, and serve.

About Good Samaritan Day

What is Good Samaritan Day?

At the Mortel High Hopes for Haiti Foundation, Good Samaritan Day is more than a date on the calendar; it’s the living expression of Dr. Rodrigue Mortel’s belief that we are all called to serve.

It’s the day when our students in Haiti, despite having so little themselves, gather their pennies to bring meals and hygiene kits to those behind prison walls.

It’s the day when students in Pennsylvania assemble bag lunches for the homeless, pack shoeboxes for families in need, and write cards of encouragement with their own hands.

It is faith in action.

What We Did Together in 2025

In 2025, Good Samaritan Day brought together entire school communities from the streets of Saint Marc to the hallways of Hershey, PA. Here’s a glimpse of what your support made possible:

  • Les Bons Samaritains, Saint Marc, Haiti — Students and staff pooled their own resources to deliver meals and hygiene kits directly to prisoners in the local jail.
  • Collège James Stine, Saint Marc, Haiti — Students raised funds for food and toiletries for prisoners, embodying the call to serve even the most forgotten.
  • St. Joan of Arc School, Hershey, PA — The entire school community assembled bagged lunches and hygiene kits for the homeless in Harrisburg.
  • Bishop McDevitt High School, Harrisburg, PA — The Christian Service Club partnered with United Way to pack and decorate healthy meal boxes for families in need.

It’s Your Turn. Go, and Do the Same.

This year, we’re inviting more schools, parishes, and communities to celebrate Good Samaritan Day 2026 — on or around March 13th. Whether you organize a food drive, assemble care kits, visit a neighbor in need, or simply pause to pray for those who are suffering, every act counts.

You don’t need a school or a club to be a Good Samaritan. Look around you. Someone in your neighborhood, your office, your family is waiting for someone to show up. Be that person.
