And they’re off! 6th graders graduate and head to CJMS
It was one of our largest elementary school graduating classes (89 students!), and the ceremony was a joyful success!
The “moving up” ceremony, held on June 16th, included performances from the graduates as well as a “passing of the torch” to the rising 6th graders. The school’s Principal, Mr. Jean Philippe spoke to the graduates and congratulated them for their hard work and commented on the special honor of working with a school with such an important mission. He encouraged the students to always remember the core values of responsibility, working hard, doing your best, working together and being respectful. He closed by quoting our founder, Dr. Mortel, encouraging all who were present to “Go and Do the Same!”
Another highlight was a speech from Josue, one of the very first graduates from the Mortel HHH school system who just finished his medical schooling and served as a doctor in the local Saint Marc hospital this year. What a gift it was to be able to share his testimony, like Dr. Mortel’s, of how hard work and perseverance can help you achieve your goals and to give back!
Other highlights included musical performances and dances, moments of recognition for the valedictorian and salutatorian, as well as the Teacher of the Year awards. What a high note to end the school year on, despite the challenges throughout the country that have yet to subside.
Thank you for your encouragement and this gift of education and support for the students and staff who need it so desperately!
